Scorched, a Wajdi Mouawad’s masterpiece play, is a powerful cry that love can be the healer of multi-generational damage.
Starting in a small Montreal office, the cycles of suffering behind the pain of one refugee family, or the fiction of what could be many families, is unravelled in Scorched, (Incendies in French). After their mother’s refusal to talk for 5 years before she died, her twin children Janine and Simon travel to an unnamed country in the Middle East to the land of their birth, the same land that holds hidden and untold realities about their family.
